# Drain cleaning in Pine Ridge
Pine Ridge lots are measured in acres, which means the pipe between your house and the main is long, private, and entirely your responsibility.

## Acreage puts a lot of pipe between the house and the main
Pine Ridge Estates was developed by the Collier family in the 1960s on lots of one to three acres and more ([JJ Naples, 2026](https://jjnaples.com/neighborhoods/pine-ridge-estates-naples-fl-34108)). Both halves of that matter, and the second is the one usually overlooked.
The era places the original housing inside the pre-1972 window, when cast iron was standard for drains ([Revolution Florida, 2026](https://www.revolutionflorida.com/blog/cast-iron-plumbing-older-homes)) — the same profile as Naples Park, and the same internal corrosion that thins and roughens the pipe wall while it still passes water.
The acreage adds something Naples Park does not have. A one to three acre lot means a long private lateral running from the house to the main, and every foot of that is on the homeowner rather than the utility. More length means more joints, more root exposure, and considerably more distance for a cable auger to reach — which is why a blockage that would be routine on a compact lot is a different job here.
A cable auger and the ground-level cleanout it works through. Where the cleanouts sit, and how far apart they are, decides how much of a run can actually be reached.

## Where should the cleanouts be on an acre-plus lot?
Close enough together that a cable can reach the whole run between them, which on acreage frequently means more than the single cleanout near the house that a compact lot manages with. The purpose of a cleanout is to give access to a specific stretch of pipe, so a long lateral with access at one end only means every clearing starts from the same point and works outward until it runs out of reach.
Where an existing property is short of access, adding one is a modest piece of work that changes the cost of every clearing afterwards. It is worth raising during any job that has the ground open anyway, because the marginal cost at that moment is small and the same work commissioned on its own later is not. Ask where the existing access points are before you need them, and mark them.
Acreage, and the distance that follows from it. Every practical difference here — reach, access, restoration — is a consequence of how far the house sits from the main.

## How long does a clearing take on a property this size?
Longer than the same fault would take on a compact lot, and most of the difference is not the clearing itself. It is establishing where the fault is along a long private run, getting equipment to the right access point across a large property, and working back if the first access does not reach. That is why the quote for identical symptoms differs between a Pine Ridge address and one a few miles away.
The part a property owner can compress is the first part. A located, marked and recorded lateral removes the searching from every visit that follows, and on a lot measured in acres that is frequently the largest single line in the time on site. It is the reason the recommendation here leans so heavily on preparation: the work itself is ordinary, and the distance around it is what is being paid for.
